Ingredients
For the caramel base
- 1 and ½ cups of white sugar
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
For the cake
- 2 apples, cored and peeled
- 1 cup soft cream cheese
- ½ cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- ¾ cup walnuts or pecan nuts for garnish
For the sauce
- 1 cup heavy cream or whipping cream
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 2 tbsp butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup apple cider
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
Directions
Cake
- Turn oven to 350F.
- Cut the apples in fine wedges and arrange over the caramel in the cake mold..
- Whisk the cream cheese, milk, eggs, the vanilla extract, and the sugar, then sift in the flour, the baking powder, the baking soda and the cinnamon, mixing to combine.
- Pour the batter over the mold and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool down and un-mold.
Sauce
- Combine ingredients in a saucepan and cook over high heat until the sugar dissolves, reduce the heat to medium and cook 10 minutes – until it reduces and gets syrupy. Let cool and pour over previously cooled cake and decorate with the nuts
